#07 – State of development

Hey Stalker,

and welcome to a new DevBlog. Today we want to give you a short overview about the current state of the mod, our workflow, own assets, Patreon and of course the map.

We’ve been working on the Sievert Zone project for a little over a year now, and in the first few months of development we were initially focused on the question of what the concept of the map should look like and how exactly to create a map for DayZ. In the following months, we spent a lot of time thinking about what a good workflow for our team could look like. Up until May/June 2023, we experimented and learned. In retrospect, it was a good decision, as many workflows had been were reconsidered and optimized. For example, the documentation system for all the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. assets several times over and we also wrote tools and scripts to make work easier. A little more about this topic later.

Now to the current state of development:

As just mentioned, we have created tools and scripts to make our work easier, including standalone tools that automatically adjust certain configs for new assets, a script which automatically links the assets with textures in the Object Builder of DayZ or Blender add-ons which simplify the creation of certain LODs. At this point it would be very would be a bit time-consuming to explain the individual tools and scripts, as they require a deeper understanding of DayZ modding. In the long run, we plan to set up a gitHub page where all tools, including source code, will be available.

While we’re on the subject of tools, a few weeks ago we discovered the NSight tool from Nivdia. With this tool, you can record a frame in order to analyze, among other things, the utilization of the graphics card, which in turn gives you tips for optimizing performance. the performance. For all those who have always wondered how a frame in DayZ the following video is just right for you.

As you’ve probably already noticed, we create our own assets for the map from time to time. In today’s DevBlog we would like to introduce you to the Greenhouse Complex, which will expand the area around Agroprom area logically. The assets in the pictures are already well advanced, but not yet not yet in the final state.

Blender render

Another example of more complex costum assets is a modular tunnel system. It consists of just over 40 different assets, which can be combined in different ways.

Two renders from Blender and an overview of all parts in DayZ.

In the past week and months, we have been asked again and again whether there is a way to support us financially. Basically, we are not looking for money. This map is not hidden behind a paywall in any form. Free for everyone. Also our current costs, webspace, test server, tools, textures etc. we can cover by ourselves.

Nevertheless, we would like to offer you the opportunity to support us financially on Patreon. We will continue to use the money within the project and will provide an overview on Patreon with a overview of the approximate running costs.

However, pleaseconsider carefully whether you really really want to spend the money and can’t invest it in something else!

Will there be Patreon exclusive content? Yes, but much more no. We will post small sneak peaks at irregular intervals, e.g. a work in progress screenshot from Blender, nothing special. These will then be published soon in the Discord or via a DevBlog on our Homepage. There will be no exclusive content in relation to the map, e.g. paid early access.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank you for all the support and feedback we have received from you so far. we have received from you so far. This also contributes to the fact that we are still enthusiasm to work on the project.

There’s not much to report on the map itself in text form this time, except that it’s progressing very well. And to be honest, a picture is worth than a thousand words. That’s why we’ve added Darkscape, Garbage, Countryside and Agroprom to the Map Gallery and a little sneak peak for the Construction Site area.

All those who follow us on YouTube or via Discord have already noticed, at the beginning of this year we released a new video, which I do not want to withhold from you at this point would like.

Last but not least, a little tip at this point, our level designer streams on Twitch from time to time. You are very welcome and if you have any questions, fell free and ask.

Stay tuned for more information and good hunting S.T.A.L.K.E.R.!
